Profitable selfishness and envy

Criticizing the human condition is so useless as criticism adverse natural phenomena (rain, cold, wind).

In another article (1) used two classic stories of those who intend to leave us some teaching, some advice and to settle some sort of indoctrination about how we should be: the story of the long-handled spoons and history of the dog in the manger.

The final conclusion of the said article reads: "The selfishness of envy is the feeling that animates these characters who help others although they could do it."

Also in another article (2) they said verbatim: "... not the objects or situations which welfare envy but that seems to have who enjoys those objects or situations. "

Overall the lessons refer to selfishness and jealousy seem to be to demonize these two sentiments, stressing the desirability of not envy and not be selfish.

These teachings have the same goal that would have an official propaganda aimed at encouraging citizens to pay promptly all taxes.

This propaganda contain phrases such as "do not be selfish, pay all taxes," "leave that resistance to work with the State," "the meanness of citizens is the only cause of the inefficiency of the rulers."

By contrast, the propaganda is that we need to help us (teach) to coexist with the natural selfishness of our neighbors and our rulers.

In other words, rather than giving advice to abandon selfishness and envy, inevitable traits in our species, we need to know how to respond to the adverse effects which could cause us those characteristics.

Criticizing the human condition is so useless as criticism adverse natural phenomena (rain, cold, wind).

Conclusion: profitable selfishness and envy!

Note: Original in Spanish (without translation by Google): Rentabilizar el egoísmo y la envidia.
